EMPOWERMENT

Targeted, impact-driven investment that makes a direct change.

GPA Empowerment takes a deliberate, focused approach in tackling some of the social ills we are faced with. 5% of GPA’s turnover is earmarked to directly fund initiatives within the community or province the funds were generated.

We are committed to driving this mission, to making a positive impact change in our communities, to building sustainable futures for all.

Our six key empowerment programmes

Destined to Serve

Aimed at solving social skills from a grassroot level and taking children from cradle to career. We partner with schools in communities plagued by high unemployment rates and place qualified childcare workers within the schools to identify children who are hindered by a lack of resources. This mentorship programme has been designed to address both social and academic challenges.

Raw Skills Talent Search and Development:
(C² Project)

Focused on matriculants that are socially and financially excluded from entering the higher education institutions and professional market. This leadership programme aims to identify, employ and upskill, unlock and enable economic inclusivity.

Graduate Project

Focused on unemployed youth with a higher education qualification unable to enter the professional work market. We employ such youth to work alongside our professionals, giving them the necessary work experience while earning an income.

Feed for Change

We partner GameChangers SA (GC), a nonprofit organisation that aims to change the narrative around the economy, inspire the youth, unlock resources and enable community upliftment to contribute towards building sustainabilities. GC does this through various leadership programmes aimed at the youth. The GPA Group joined GC on their Feed for Change initiative, that annually plans to provide in excess of 20 000 meals in the Grassy Park, Lavender Hill and Overcome areas.

Dumos Mios

Aimed at helping the victims of genderbased violence by supporting various organisations and initiatives that are dedicated to this cause.

Nkululo Lindi Foundation

Founded in honour of the late Nkululo Lindi, who would have been a key member of the GPA Group but tragically lost his life in 2019. The Foundation underpins the Destined to Serve programme by way of providing bursaries and scholarships to deserving individuals that have the hopes and dreams to become a professional.
