GPA Supply drives upliftment through developmental and skills enhancement programmes, as well as interventions that are geared towards direct support of SMMEs and Co-Operatives targeting women, youth, and those with disabilities. We focus on pro-actively identifying these small businesses and assisting them with their business operations, enabling them to provide an effective service and product and compete with industry leaders.

GPA Supply aligns with the National Treasury’s view that SMMEs are essential for efficient markets and sound competitiveness, playing a profound role in both urban and rural areas. SMMEs are particularly useful for alleviating poverty and are responsible for creating 65 – 75% of new jobs in the economy annually.

As such, it’s important for us to be open to all small businesses, with a walk-in policy that reduces the barriers to entry. We also reach small businesses by partnering with Private Sector and local and international Donors, whose Corporate Social Responsibility includes SMME Programmes. We facilitate these initiatives through a well-established programme under the GPA Supply entity. While we are not limited to any sector for such support, we are aware of key growth areas for our economy such as mining, infrastructure, agriculture. Our third route to SMMEs is through partnership with organs of state to roll out SMME projects on their behalf.

Our SMME support programme takes a 360° view on a business. We know that starting a business is an entrepreneurial project, and through our offering we look into conceptualisation, design, implementation and operations. To facilitate the practical needs of each small business and reduce their overheads, we collaborate with our Empowerment entity through our Co-Works offering, which allows SMMEs access to the facilities within our office at reduced costs.
